Today we are debunking myths about self-care. Here are a few commons ones we see.
🌻 Self-care is selfish. This couldn't be further from the truth. Making time for yourself, to re-center, is vital for our mental health. A healthy mind allows us to function as our best self. In return, this allows us to be there for our loved ones. As the saying goes, you can't pour from an empty cup.
🌻Self-care is expensive. Of course it can be if you decide you want a nice long spa day or a vacation to another country. But does it have to be? Absolutely not. Your self care can look like a good book and a quiet morning, it can be ten minutes of meditation or journaling. It is whatever you can do, within your means, that will help your mental health find the balance it needs.
🌻Self-care has to be earned. False. You can start the day with self-care before you do anything that would be considered productive. There is no prerequisite for nurturing your mental health. You simply need to listen to your body and let it guide you as to when something feels off and may need a break or timeout. Never convince yourself that you have not earned it. Just being a human, living this rollercoaster of a life, we have earned it. Want to read about more self-care myths?
